Although much easier than the north coast trail in terms of general output it was longer so needed a bit more endurance than the NCT or Juan de fuca trail! We started in port renfrew and made our way… Full review by ryanvanveener

My husband and I are considering doing the northern part of the WCT in 2019. Did you find it difficult to leave from the Nitanaht Trail head? We live in Ontario and trying to figure out how to get to this trailhead and manage transportation back to the same place from Bamfield, without having to spend extra nights in both places. Thanks!

Hi, I hope this info might still be useful to you. From my experience, and what I will be doing again this May is that I rented a car at the Victoria airport (YYJ) and drove to the trail head I wanted, which for me was Port Renfrew. At the north end of the trail I took a taxi (the WCT Pachena Bay trail office can call them for you) to Bamfield for breakfast and then caught the trail bus at 1:15. The trail bus (google; west coast trail express) goes from Bamfield to Pachena Trailhead (where you can also catch the bus) then to Nitnaht Village and then off to Port Renfrew before going back to Victoria.re are alternatives fro you as well such as taking the trial bus from Victoria to Nitnaht Village and then the trail bus back to Vic again at Pachena Bay. Keep in mind that the drive from Victoria or Nanaimo to Bamfield and/or Nitnaht Village follows active logging roads which can be pretty rough. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions, i would be happy to answer them if I am able!

I've hiked both and the WCT was much more difficult in my opinion. But the Rockwell was a better hike overall given the beautiful scenery. The WTC is more challenging because of: (1) the challenging trail; (2) the weather; and (3) the slow pace. Hope this helps.

Hi there - are there any great tour operators or guides that operate on the WCT? We are a group of girls (some would say ladies) who would love to do the hike with a touch of luxury and a glass of wine :) Thanks

Hi girls, My wife Rita ( 61 ) and me Andre ( 71 ) from Belgium did the trail last year with MBguiding from Victoria BC. A wonderful experience... But, don't expect luxury. It's backcountry hiking with many hazards: ladders, roots, mud, times, cable cars, boulders etc... As to the wine: Mike is a veganist, so you should make arrangements. An easier and also fascinating trip is the Nootka Trail. Mike's website is MB guiding in Ca. Go for it! Rita and Andre

I'm interested in knowing more about the ladders. If we go from south to north, I understand we're going down more laddwes than up. Is that right? Is it easier going down a ladder or up?
A:
Thanks. Will consider that!
