Initial approval to raise the tax rate by 3 cents and expand the city’s budget was given Tuesday at the Arlington City Council meeting. The tax rate will now be 62.98 cents per $100 valuation. For the average Arlington home, valued at $308,372, the city will collect $1,492.34 in taxes for the year beginning Oct. 1.

The mayor of Arlington Heights released a letter to residents Tuesday, one day after Chicago Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren unveiled an update on the team's stadium transition.

The Chicago Bears have all but slammed the door on building an enclosed stadium in the city. Team president Kevin Warren wrote in a letter to fans on Monday that the team’s “future home” is in suburban Arlington Heights.

Upper Arlington said in a social media post around 2:30 p.m. that police are actively searching for a suspect in the area of Northwest Boulevard and Branden Road. Canine units from a neighboring police agency assisted.

Officers responded around 3:09 p.m. to the 1000 block of North Arlington Avenue, where they found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
