The Montreal Canadiens have signed former Detroit Red Wings forward Joe Veleno to a one-year, one-way contract. Veleno, 25, an unrestricted free agent who was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks on June 21 by the Seattle Kraken in exchange for forward Andre Burakovsky, was bought out eight days later with one-year left on his deal.
Most of the recent trade speculation surrounding the Pittsburgh Penguins is focused on Erik Karlsson. Their acquisition of right-shot blueliner Matt Dumba has some observers believing the 35-year-old defenseman will soon be on his way out of Pittsburgh.
Charlie Coyle, who was traded to the Blue Jackets this summer after Boston dealt him to Colorado at the deadline, will come to Boston on Feb. 26. Brandon Carlo, will return to TD Garden as a Maple Leaf for the first time on Nov. 11.
