MARIPOSA COUNTY, CA - A preliminary 3.0 magnitude quake was recorded near Mariposa Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A late afternoon earthquake in Los Angeles County rattled Southern California, including parts of San Bernardino County.

A series of moderate to minor earthquakes struck near the geologically active area in Northern California known as The Geysers south of Clear Lake Thursday morning.

The magnitude 3.3 quake struck at 10:49 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 8, four miles south of Pearblossom in Los Angeles County, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The earthquake struck west of the San Bernardino County line, and was felt from Victorville to Santa Clarita and Palmdale to Long Beach.

When a 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook California in March 1933, it exposed weaknesses in school building construction methods. Some 70 schools were completely destroyed, while hundreds more were damaged.

KERN COUNTY, CA - Thursday afternoon, a preliminary 2.3 magnitude quake was registered close to Grapevine, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
