A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the Pacific coast of Russia in the same area where an even bigger quake hit earlier this year. A tsunami advisory has been issued.
There is no tsunami threat to Hawaii from a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Russia this morning, Pacific Tsunami Warning Center officials said. “Based on all available data a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat to Hawaii,” PTWC officials said at 10:41 a.m.

There was no tsunami threat to Hawaii after a strong earthquake struck off Russia Thursday morning. It's the same region that triggered a tsunami warning for us back in July.
