Erik Siebert, the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District Attorney who was investigating New York Attorney General Letitia James, has reportedly resigned. President Donald Trump though is claiming that he fired him.
Erik Siebert, who has served as the top federal prosecutor since January, has been told to resign or face termination, according to the Associated Press.
President Donald Trump publicly called on his Attorney General Pam Bondi to begin prosecuting his political opponents in a Truth Social post on Saturday. "We can’t delay any longer,” Trump posted on Truth Social in a message addressed to “Pam.”
Replacements have been named for Erik Siebert, acting U.S. attorney and nominee for Virginia's Eastern District forced out amid pressure to charge a politician.
Trump dropped a post-midnight rant claiming that Erik Siebert didn't resign under pressure to prosecute Letitia James, but rather that "I fired him!"
