Victim advocates, mental health help available to Colorado community after Evergreen High shooting
Victim advocates and mental health professionals will be available to the Colorado community in the days after the shooting at Evergreen High School.
The shooting suspect fired a handgun inside and outside the school, said Jacki Kelley, spokesperson for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Students at Evergreen High School in Colorado were more than halfway through the school day in their third week of classes this semester when over 100 law enforcement officers swarmed the campus, searching every room for an active shooter as they went into lockdown.
Evergreen High School will be closed Thursday and Friday as the Jeffco School District reaches out to families to connect them to mental health services throughout the community southwest of Denver.
Emergency responders are on scene at Evergreen High School, in Jefferson County, related to reports of an “active assailant” in the area of the school Wednesday afternoon.
