The Department of Justice has launched a probe into the city of Chicago's hiring practices in what Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson has quickly labeled the latest hostile attack on diversity by the Trump administration.

The U.S. Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into hiring practices at the city of Chicago in response to comments made by Mayor Brandon Johnson at a church Sunday, praising the number of and naming Black people in top positions in his administration.

Ishan Daya apologized for tearing down the poster in 2023, whose wording he also called “racist and dehumanizing.”

Johnson invited youth leaders to speak at city hall to share what they want to see from city leaders on how to better support Chicago youth.
