SIMSBURY — A Democratic town committee in Connecticut said it did not celebrate the shooting death Wednesday of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, saying a viral post shared by a right-wing influencer that appeared to come from the party was a fake.
"Today at about 12:10 a shot was fired at the visiting speaker, Charlie Kirk. He was hit and taken from the location by his security. Campus police is investigating, a suspect is in custody," the post says. BBC Verify has confirmed the authenticity of several videos of the shooting which have been posted online.
The Turning Point USA cofounder was speaking in front of a large crowd on the campus of Utah Valley University.
