Two people detained and released after the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk have faced threats and scrutiny even after police said they were not suspects.

A 38-year-old man in a lab coat was arrested on Utah Valley University's campus Thursday morning after police say he trespassed into the crime scene where Charlie Kirk was fatally shot the day before.

Charlie Kirk was fielding questions about gun violence at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday when he was shot.

The shooter appeared to be of “college age” and is believed to have blended in on the university campus where Kirk was shot, authorities said.

Donald Trump Jr. acknowledged the inherent security risks of political events in July as he spoke alongside Kirk at a Turning Point USA summit in Tampa, Florida. The younger Trump recalled a 2016 campus event in which he said he appeared with Kirk even after Michigan state police warned that they could not guarantee the two men’s safety.

The FBI released images of a person of interest in the investigation after the conservative activist was fatally shot during an event at Utah Valley University.
