The Toronto Raptors plan to take it slow with Brandon Ingram as he continues to work his way back from a severe ankle injury

The Toronto Raptors swooped in to secure the services of their newest star before the NBA Trade Deadline. The Raptors pushed hard to acquire Ingram, and wound up sending Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, and a couple of picks in exchange for their brand-new star forward.

Right on the heels of trading for Brandon Ingram before the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline, the Toronto Raptors have extended the contract of the 6-foot-8 wing. The new deal is worth $120 million over the next three seasons, meaning Ingram will average $40 million per season, with the last year being a player option.

The Raptors acquired Ingram, who hasn't played since Dec. 7 due to a sprained ankle, in a deal with the Pelicans last week.

The Raptors will be the third team the former No. 2 overall pick has played for in his professional career. Shortly after the blockbuster deal, Ingram signed a three-year extension with Toronto. In an introduction press conference, the elite wing explained his reasoning for being with his new franchise for the long run.
