U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday chose Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman and an outspoken critic of the Biden administration's foreign policy, to become his director of national intelligence.

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat who defected to the Republican Party, is reportedly under consideration to be President-elect Donald Trump’s director of national intelligence, a pick that would be cause for significant alarm among Republican hawks and could raise concerns for the pro-Israel community.

Gabbard, an Army Reserve officer whose antiwar views are seen as sympathetic to Moscow, is considered an unconventional choice to lead U.S. spy agencies.

Ms. Gabbard, a former congresswoman who left the Democratic Party, would hold a top job in the administration, overseeing 18 spy agencies.

Tulsi Gabbard was a rising star in the Democratic Party before she left in 2022 and endorsed Donald Trump in 2024.
