Students in the Salt Lake City School District will head back to the classroom on August 24th and some students will be attending an all new virtual school.

At Salt Lake Virtual Elementary, “the connection between school and home is bridged,” teacher Emmery Stock says. But with declining enrollment, the school face a possible closure.

A staff member at Austinville Elementary tested positive over the weekend. That result prompted quarantine procedures for 12 staff members, including the principal.

The district will not enroll a new third-grade class starting in the 2025-26 school year, and there will be no elementary school virtual learners by the 2027-28 school year.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board voted Tuesday to continue offering a remote option for grades four through 12, working around a state law ending academies created during the pandemic.
