A heavily rotated Bayern Munich endured a difficult game in challenging conditions against Benfica, and despite a strong fight back in the second half, would ultimately succumb to a 1-0 defeat. This is the first time Die Rekordmeister have ever lost against the Portuguese side.

Andreas Schjelderup scored in the 13th minute to give Benfica a 1-0 victory over Bayern Munich in scorching heat on Tuesday, sending the Portuguese club to the top of Group C in the Club World Cup.

Benfica scored through 21-year-old Andreas Schjelderup in the first half, while Bayern gave Tom Bischof the chance to stake his claim as the deputy to Jamal Musiala. Vincent Kompany brought on his bigger names in the second half, and though Bayern improved, they failed to break through.
