A suspect is in custody after Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot Saturday, while State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded.

Minnesota's DFL party was created on April 15, 1944, after the Minnesota Democrats merged with the Farmer-Labor Party, according to the party's official website. Former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey is believed to be the founder of the party after serving a key role in the merger of the two affiliations.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar D-Minn., said she also planned to confront Lee. “There was no Father’s Day for [Hortman’s] children,” she said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. “This is not a laughing matter, and certainly what we are seeing in increasing violence and this evil man who did this, this is not a joke.”
