The NWS Raleigh NC issued an updated winter storm warning at 9:49 p.m. on Wednesday in effect until Thursday at 1 p.m. The warning is for Nash, Edgecombe, Wake, Johnston, Wilson, Wayne and Sampson counties.

Storm Kingston swept across the U.S. from the Midwest into the South and mid-Atlantic, bringing snow, ice and dangerous road conditions to cities including Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kansas City and Roanoke, Virginia.

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain will make for an impactful winter storm in our area on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Winter is still going strong across North Carolina and Virginia. Two days of freezing rain last week brought 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch of ice from the North Carolina mountains deep into central Virginia.

Re-freezing could also result in black ice and slick travel conditions. Significant ice accumulations were forecast in eastern North Carolina, the National Weather Service said.
