Microsoft is rolling out new firmware and driver updates to its Surface RT and Surface Pro devices as part of April's Patch Tuesday.

A firmware update for Surface RT devices was also part of the batch of updates delivered at that time. A Microsoft spokesperson said the company expects to have a fix ready by early February.

Microsoft has put the Surface tablet's Windows 8.1 RT upgrade on ice until a permanent fix can be found for the botched update.

Click for a larger version “Update to Surface RT” and “Update to Surface Pro” are both listed, suggesting that the company is planning two new models over the next year.

A Microsoft support rep has also confirmed that the updates include improvements to the Wi-Fi reliability for Surface RT. The latest updates following similar performance updates released last month.
