SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Art Schallock, a left-handed pitcher who in 1951 replaced future Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle on the Yankees' roster and had been the oldest living former major leaguer, has died.

Art Schallock got his shot in the major leagues after a struggling Mickey Mantle was optioned by New York in 1951.

Art Schallock, the oldest living former AL/NL player and a World War II veteran whose debut with the Yankees sent Mickey Mantle to the Minors, died on Thursday. He was 100 years old. His death was announced by Cogir of Sonoma Plaza,
