Mel Brooks' 'Spaceballs' put a comedic dent in the sci-fi genre when it crashed onto the space-opera scene in 1987. Now, prequels and sequels later, it's back.

Much of the original 'Spaceballs' cast are reprising their roles for 'Spaceballs 2', which is the movie's best chance of success for several reasons.

The still untitled Spaceballs 2 is coming in 2027 and will be directed by Josh Greenbaum (Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar) from a script by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad.

Keke Palmer, meanwhile, is said to play a character named Destiny. She, Starburst, and Josh Gad's mystery character will serve as Spaceballs 2's leads.

Spaceballs 2 will not be released in theaters until 2027, but plans for a trilogy may already be in motion with Spaceballs 3.
