KATHMANDU (Reuters) -As protesters in Nepal stormed parliament this week forcing the prime minister to quit, luxury hotels and residences were attacked by arsonists amid anger at the lavish lifestyle of the elites in one of the world's poorest countries.
Meanwhile, Nepal police said over 15,000 prisoners had escaped from two dozen jails during the protests. While 1,455 of them had been re-arrested and sent back to jail, 12,852 remained on the run, spokesperson Vinod Ghimire said. The president described Kirk as a "martyr for truth and freedom."
First, there are the migrant workers who leave families behind to work as cooks, domestic help, security guards, or in low-paid jobs across Indian cities. They remain Nepali citizens, move back and forth, lack Aadhaar (India's biometric identity card) and are often denied basic services. That is why sometimes they are called seasonal migrants.
