Lando Norris crashed out of the Canadian Grand Prix following a sensational 200mph collision with McLaren team-mate and championship rival Oscar Piastri.As George Russell delivered a faultless drive to win from pole position ahead of Red Bull rival Max Verstappen,

George Russell said he hopes Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will continue to throw away points to propel him into this season’s world championship fight. Russell won from pole position at the Canadian Grand Prix to claim his first triumph of the year and just the fourth of his career.

Norris crashed himself out of the race when he inexplicably tried to pass McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri for fourth place with less than five laps left. Norris got past Piastri in the hairpin, but Piastri was able to get back alongside on the corner exit and won the drag race down the main straightaway until the final chicane.

Kimi Antonelli finished fourth, one place ahead of Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton. Russell started on pole here last year and came from nowhere to secure first place again. Verstappen, who crashed into Russell at the previous round in Spain, will join him on the front row.
