Singapore’s core inflation cooled to 0.8% in January from a year earlier, supporting the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s recent decision to loosen its policy settings for the first time in nearly five years.

Core inflation, which excludes private transport and accommodation costs to better reflect the expenses of Singapore households, slid to 0.8 per cent year on year, from a revised 1.7 per cent in December. This is the lowest since June 2021, when core inflation was 0.6 per cent.

Singapore's inflation climbed by its lowest rate since February 2021, increasing 1.2% year on year in January, down from 1.6% in December.
