Microsoft is replacing Remote Desktop with its new Windows app
The new Windows app, which launched in September, includes multimonitor support, dynamic display resolutions, and easy access to cloud PCs and virtual desktops. Microsoft says “connections to Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and Microsoft Dev Box via the Remote Desktop app from the Microsoft Store will be blocked after May 27th, 2025.”
The new Windows App will soon replace Remote Desktop
Microsoft has announced that the Remote Desktop app for Windows, available through the Microsoft Store, will be retired on May 27, 2025. Users are encouraged to transition to the new Windows App (very uninspired name, right?), which offers enhanced features and a more streamlined experience for accessing remote services.

Microsoft now says that Microsoft Publisher will disappear in October 2026, where the ( ahem) “perpetual version” of Publisher will be discontinued — at least in terms of support.
