Godwin is still working his way back from a devastating ankle injury he suffered midway through the 2024 season

As he continues to work his way back from a dislocated ankle, Chris Godwin returned to practice for the Buccaneers on Thursday.

Mike Evans has never had a bad season in the NFL. Whenever the Tampa Bay Buccaneers legend decides to retire, that'll be his legacy. No one has started a career the way Evans has, which is in some ways a wild sentence because Evans is in his 12th season in the league now.

Godwin signed a new three-year, $66 million deal this offseason that includes $44 million guaranteed to secure the veteran's return to Tampa Bay. Godwin was heavily pursued in free agency, but ultimately valued the comfort of returning to the Buccaneers, the only franchise he's ever played for.

The Buccaneers won't have to worry about Cade Stover or Jake Andrews in Week 2, as the Texans have ruled both players out for Sunday.

The 29-year-old from Penn State is in his ninth season with the organization. His career highs came in 2019 when Godwin caught 86 passes, picking up 1,333 yards and nine touchdowns.

On Thursday for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Luke Goedeke (foot) and Greg Gaines (ankle) did not participate in practice. In addition, five players were limited: Chris Godwin Jr. (ankle), Ko Kieft (head), Zyon McCollum (neck/shoulder), Haason Reddick (foot) and Tristan Wirfs (knee).

In the lead up to the NFL season, the Buccaneers cut Shilo Sanders and Desmond Watson. Sanders had the name value as the son of Deion Sanders after being undrafted out of Colorado. Watson had the intrigue, having measured at 464 pounds before the draft, which would've made him by far the heaviest player to appear in an NFL game.
