The CWS often boils down to manufactured runs. Arizona will have to hammer out four games worth of them just to make the championship series.

Coastal Carolina opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning. First baseman Colby Thorndyke led off with a first-pitch single to center field. Right fielder Blagen Pado followed with a single to left field that moved Thorndyke to second base.

Six conferences and an independent will be represented at the College World Series. None were among the final eight in Omaha a year ago.
