According to the National Hurricane Center, Gabrielle is forecast to pass east of Bermuda late Sunday into Monday and strengthen into a hurricane.

The storm is not an immediate threat to land, but it is expected to strengthen as it moves through the open Atlantic.

In Barstow, California, a 2-year-old was swept away after their family's car was swept off a road and overtaken by floodwaters. The City of Barstow announced on Friday that "After more than 20 hours of extensive search and rescue operations, emergency responders located the child’s body."

Though the storm — expected to become a hurricane on Sunday — is not expected to reach the U.S. East Coast, the swells it generates may.

At 11 a.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 455 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the system is moving to the north-northwest at 9 mph.

The storm is expected to continue moving northwestward through Saturday night, then begin turning to the north by Sunday.

At 11 p.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 535 miles southeast of Bermuda. Packing maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the system is tracking north-northwest at 9 mph. Gabrielle is expected to become a hurricane on Sunday.
