A portion of southbound Interstate 35W north of the Twin Cities was shut down for several hours Tuesday due to a fatal crash involving multiple vehicles.

A "merging conflict" triggered the seven-vehicle, chain reaction crash that killed one driver on Interstate-35W in Mounds View on Tuesday morning, according to authorities. The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as 67-year-old Kirby K. Schwarzkopf, of Brooklyn Park.
