Joseph Kosinski is headed to Miami. The filmmaker behind the $1.49 billion hit Top Gun: Maverick is attached to direct a Miami Vice movie for Universal, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Universal Pictures has set Joseph Kosinski to direct Miami Vice, a Dan Gilroy-scripted drama based on the iconic ’80s NBC series about undercover cops taking down drug dealers. No cast yet.

Joseph Kosinski's project isn't the first attempt to establish "Miami Vice" on the big screen. In 2006, "Heat" director Michael Mann (82), one of the series' producers, directed a film.
