Starbucks plans to close six Baltimore locations as part of a nationwide effort to restructure and improve sales.
The closures include a Starbucks at San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf and another in the Castro, while Easy Bay closures include sites in Berkeley and Oakland.
These New York City Starbucks will be closing immediately. These closures seemingly stem from the coffee giant’s announcement on Thursday that it would lay off hundreds of workers and close hundreds of stores.
The push to unionize Starbucks has surged in recent years. Baristas formed Starbucks Workers United in New York in December of 2021, and by the following May, California employees had organized four locations in a single week. Earlier this month, the union announced its 650th successful vote nationwide.
Five New Jersey Starbucks locations are closing, including stores in Morristown, Fort Lee, Manchester Township and West New York.
The worker protests come in the wake of an announcement this week that Starbucks is planning to close hundreds of stores and lay off close to 1,000 employees as part of a turnaround effort.
