The governor issued the veto less than an hour before the deadline late Sunday night and did not immediately issue a statement.

The proposed ban on products containing intoxicating cannabinoids was considered must-pass legislation by Lt. Gov. Patrick, even as veteran groups opposed it.

The move is likely to infuriate Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, the powerful head of the Senate, who had called the ban among his top five bills over 17 years in the Legislature.
