A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck near the east coast of Russia ’s Kamchatka region, the US Geological Survey said. The major earthquake triggered a brief tsunami warning, the second-highest alert level, across the region and as far away as Alaska, though no damage was reported. It was lifted about two hours later.
Another major earthquake hit Russia on Friday. Measuring a magnitude of 7.8, it struck at a depth of a little over six miles and prompted tsunami warnings.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Russia, prompting close monitoring in Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast. But no tsunami waves were detected along the remote island chain and the tsunami advisory was canceled.
