Gabrielle triggers hurricane alerts in the Azores, only hundreds of miles from Portugal, while the next tropical depression could form in days.
The National Hurricane Center on Wednesday increased the odds of two new tropical depressions to form in the Atlantic including one that could hit the Bahamas while also issuing a hurricane warning for the Azores for approaching Hurricane Gabrielle.
The still-powerful Hurricane Gabrielle is moving away from the U.S. but at least two tropical depressions may form in the next week, the NHC said.
Forecasters said Gabrielle was likely to weaken soon as it drifts farther into the cooler northern latitudes of the North Atlantic later this week.
Hurricane Gabrielle was located near latitude 34.3 North, longitude 57.5 West and is moving toward the east-northeast near 20 mph. A faster east-northeastward motion is expected through Thursday.

Gabrielle strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Sunday, becoming the second hurricane of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season. It comes as two other disturbances are being monitored by the National Hurricane Center for potential tropical development.
