Forecasters say Gabrielle hit its peak strength while the next named storm, Humberto, will likely form in the next few days. Here's what you need to know.
NOAA hurricane hunters indicated that maximum sustained winds from the storm increased to near 75 mph. Forecasters predict steady to rapid intensification is forecast "over the next day or so" and the possibility of Gabrielle becoming a "major hurricane" early this week.
Central Atlantic wave: Located west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, the system is producing limited convection. Dry air should inhibit development in the near term, but conditions may improve later in the week. The NHC gave it a 10 percent chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a 60 percent chance through seven days.
