Mercedes-Benz is taking a long look on cars that can drive themselves. Highlighting its vision for autonomous driving, the German automaker on Monday unveiled the F015 Luxury in Motion, an electric concept vehicle that drives itself while allowing passengers to stay connected to the world outside the car.

Mercedes-Benz has solved that problem with its Vision Urbanetic concept, and we got a super sweet ride in it on the Las Vegas Strip in the middle of the night. The platform-like chassis of the Urbanetic runs off batteries and can operate autonomously. Interchangeable modules are then placed on top, depending on what needs to be hauled around.

Using a smartphone app, you summon an autonomous car — the Mercedes F015. The car starts, exits a parking garage, and drives itself to your house to pick you up. Equipped with LED touchscreens, the F015's saloon doors open to a luxurious interior — hardwood floors and four white leather seats with a touchscreen table between them.

Mercedes on Monday gave a taste of what’s possible with its almost fully autonomous Future Bus concept, which was demonstrated in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and successfully completed a 12-mile journey without any driver involvement. The journey included numerous bends and passes through tunnels and across intersections with traffic lights.
