Jun 17, 2013 · Stove is a Quadrafire Cumberland Gap. I decided to use the rear vent feature so I could exhaust through the existing fireplace. I extended the existing hearth by 24" to get the required clearances. My hearth extension is two pieces of flagstone floating on 1/2" Micore 300 mineral fiberboard.

It will be excellent on the hinges and OK for the latch but it goes for 4-5 fires. One thing to remember about anti seize is you only look at the can and it will be every where.

Wood stove within (not in front of) existing fireplace?
Oct 10, 2024 · That said, we'd want the freestanding stove to actually sit inside (or mostly inside) the existing firebox, which is 40" W, 28" H, and 22" D. I found several Jotul stoves that would clear under the 28" height, but they all note that they must be installed in front of the firebox itself -- which we'd prefer to avoid (even if it's more efficient).

The Jotul simply doesn't do the job heating up a fairly large room with cathedral ceilings.The room it is in is a living room on our upper level that is mostly used for hosting friends or reading.
