One of the "pro" flight schools in the area has a call sign (forget what it is) but at this point, none of the many flight schools along the Front Range (Longmont to Pueblo in Colorado) use call signs.

But: Near a local uncontrolled field we have professional whiner who listens to the field frequency, and will report any plane that uses it's "N" number as "flying dangerously low" or "doing illegal aerobatics", and even "buzzing children playing at the school".

Curious what you as a controller would do if you were reaching out to UAL555 (example above) on guard (I hear a lot of this around Chicago). I wonder if non-standard phraseology trips anyone up.

Aug 4, 2016 · You found the solution. Say November. Controllers are use to 5 character call signs. Anything else is out of ryhthm. 3 character ones make you assume the pilot is abbreviating to the usual last 3 characters even though it's the initial contact. The ones I hated the most were 4 character call signs. They just didn't fit at all.
