Jul 17, 2016 · The stuff Glock puts on the rails when new is a type of copper anti-seize. It's used, a lot, on lug nuts and studs to prevent sticking and keep rust away. It is a grease. Some of these anti-seize lubes withstand temps over 1000 degrees F. The Glock manual is vague in its lubing, especially since it says not to remove it. Grease or oil. Both work.

Nov 24, 2021 · Glock is designed to be a fairly "dry" instrument. The more goop you put on/in your pistol the more it will attract and hold dirt and particulates. On the rails and tabs I put a DROP of gun lube, placed with medical syringe for control. I then wipe off the excess with a Q tip.

At some point the 9mm and 40 S&W frames got the long rear rails too. Then Glock switched to a "stronger" steel alloy for the rails and went to a shorter design but different from the original short rear rail design.
