Updated September 27, 2024 at 05:50 AM ET. Hurricane Helene weakened to a tropical storm early Friday as it sweeps across Georgia, having made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a major Category 4 Hurricane. The National Hurricane Center reports Helene now has sustained wind speeds of 70 mph.
