This video shows how I connect home-made frieze board together. The trim is bent on my brake with a built in J-channel for siding and a channel for soffit as well. This makes it easier as I don’t need to chalk a line for the soffit or deal with vinyl J-channel, making for a nice finished look. You can also add a step to the frieze board for a “crown-moulding” look (4” stacked on 6” trim). I used to do this stepped frieze board detail quite often as architects would like to draw in this detail into the building plans. It looks good and it keeps the aluminum rigid. One thing I really like about this detail is you only need one measurement (the space between the 1st step and the soffit channel), which is easily taken care of with a scrap piece of aluminum as a jig. The rest of the bends you can use the brake as the jig, making every single piece very consistent. I used zero markings

I’ve been asked a few times about the shadow bands or frieze boards and how I do them. I’ll make a video sometime on how I bend them; this video shows how I seam them together. I make all the joining cuts in my shop and leave the plumb cut at the peak for on site. There is a built in siding J channel and a built in soffit channel - so in essence, it’s just a giant F-channel.
