Making curvy, tapered, square things round is a lot easier than it looks. First, you make a four-sided object (square) eight-sided (octagon) by removing the corners. Then you remove those corners to make it 16 sides, and soon enough, you’ve got a perfectly round object. Usually we start with a block plane, then move to a spokeshave, and end doing a little shoe-shine action with some sandpaper.
