In 1917, she made history by becoming the first African American woman to win a national championship in any sport. She then became the first Black woman dean at a university and helped found the first Black sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha. Despite her many accomplishments, her legacy was often overlooked, but it lives on in the lives she touched and the doors she opened for others."
