This large white grub is the larval stage of a beetle in the scarab family. There are many species a grub like this may turn out to be as an adult (we didn't key out the species using the tiny hairs on the underside...gross). They are typically underground, feeding on roots and decaying plant material, but this one made an appearance above ground on a rainy day. In some places these can be considered pests, but in a National Park they play and important role, recycling dead material into new gro
