I started hanging sheetrock with a neighbor that needed help when I was 14, went to school for architecture and civil engineering at 18, became a certified energy auditor when I was 19, and the rest of my life has been focused on conservation. I might not be a young carpenter anymore, but I have battle scars and have been fortunate to have completed 300 remodel jobs by the time I was 24, and then designed 750 places that have been built. If you want to educate yourself on Building Sustainably, I

Building a super energy efficient, off grid, Passive House, Net Zero…home or cabin??? I should have asked a few more questions on this build eh? Yes Canada. Holy moly. It’s imperative to have all your ducks in a row first. Been there done that. A bit of who I am below. The Super Energy Efficient Home/Building 95 page Playbook and the accompanying 13 page Checklist. Type CARBONLESS and will send you the link. This one was a 32 mile boat ride away. I have done builds 250 miles via super cub away.

I’m showing off tonight. And I’ve earned it. This is a double BareNaked Tstud™ assembly for floors and roofs. Now imagine it in a wall. Double thermal breaks. Double sound breaks. Axial strength that embarrasses conventional lumber. Energy performance that crushes code. I didn’t guess. I tested to failure. ASTM. CSA. Continuous load. Fire testing. Compression. Thousands of studs broken. Stronger. Quieter. Warmer. Fully patented in the United States and Canada. If someone wants to manufacture at

That BareNaked Tstud™ provides a thermal break “through” the stud so no continuous insulation is required…unless you want to leave a legacy behind like me. See that foam sill sealer? Different eh? That’s a squishy closed cell foam gasket material that we used on a project to prove that we wouldn’t get any air leakage in the number one spot that leaks air. I teach all about how to make homes and buildings more energy efficient in the 95 page Playbook and the Checklist so you don’t forget energy e

This ductwork is a spaghetti mess — and it tells the whole story. Built to 1970-era code, this house needs an HVAC system 3–4× bigger than it should be. Same size house. Triple the equipment. Triple the utility bills — forever. That’s not bad luck. That’s bad building. I’m here to stop this nonsense. I’m here to build better. If you are too — come with me. I’m Brian Iverson — inventor of the Thermal Studs™ family of products, former certified Energy Auditor, designer and builder of 750 structure

One of the reasons why contractors are required to oversize all the HVAC systems is to deal with faulty building code requirements. Lots of thermal bridging. 20% Air changes per hour 5ACH or worse. No moisture management. Lack of education. No systems. No continuity. And Mother Nature wins every time. Doesn’t take much to be in control. That’s what I teach after filing 19 patents in the energy efficiency construction products space. I removed 19 degrees off my walls and roof before the wall asse

Two foundations, side by side — let’s talk real energy efficiency with heart. First up: My foundation. Poly down to block moisture, plus R-10 insulation underneath. It minimizes ground heat/cold transfer, so I can size my HVAC equipment smaller from the start. Utility Bills stay low and consistent, my level of comfort stays steady, and the house just feels right. No mold ever in my house. Cost for an R10 rigid insulation? Just $2 per square foot — a cheap price tag for lifelong savings, sure, I

Compressed fiberglass batts = instant FAIL. This wall got an F. When batts are smashed, they lose R-value. The stud becomes a heat highway… like a hot knife through butter. The cold side acts like a sponge, pulling energy right through the wall. Might as well be dumping your cash out of your wallet. This isn’t efficiency. It’s expensive comfort loss. I teach how to fix this…proper insulation, ventilation, moisture control, and real performance. 📘 Playbook Checklist…On sale this weekend 50% off…

Your roof is 150 degrees and in 12”, you want to maintain 70 degrees in your house. Thats a 80 temp differential in 12”. I reduced mine by 19 degrees first. The sun is coming up and the wall surface temp is already 134 degrees…inside is 70. 7” to drop 64 degrees. I reduced mine by 19 degrees first. Cost to operate for life? Free. Who will win? Mother Nature or your wallet? How about I teach you about creating a thermal equilibrium through your entire envelope so Mother Nature stays outside so yo

28 Day Build Schedule Even though I don’t like the fact that these houses are not energy efficient, they had to do serious air sealing to get the ACH within code requirements. But this builder is on a 28 day cycle. That’s from excavation to closing. We were on the same schedule in 1982. We did 55 houses back then and all of the trades were stacked up upon each other. But they all got them done. And they got paid on time. Type COURSE and I will send you the link to the educational course. This is

“You’re not just getting a checklist—you’re getting the whole playbook, guide, blueprint, manual, and roadmap to make your home super energy efficient from day one.” “Why did over 10,000 people reach out to me? Because if you’re reading this, you already know you don’t want just a code-minimum house. I’m a carpenter, an energy auditor, designer of 750 structures, and a developer of thousands of lots, most of them for affordable housing. I’ve seen every corner of this industry, and I’m tired of w

Long before going to school for Architechure I learned how to frame houses and some metal stud work. Panelized everything and included the windows, doors, siding, lookouts and soffit before we stood up the wall or swung into place. Capp Homes and Sussel Homes. Before pump jacks and swung every nail in. All of the education before I graduate high school and while I was attending VoTech School. But this is how we did framing BACK then. Unfortunately this is still happening today. Not trying to sca

Having designed 750 places that have been built, and having been involved in the ever changing landscape of energy codes, building better yet not making room sizes smaller has always been a mystery for me to solve. It finally fell into my lap December of 2024. Can’t believe nobody thought of this. Granted, I did file the TSUPS patent so I’ve been seeking a solution for years. Just didn’t realize how simple it could be. I’m here to leave my legacy behind and come along everybody. There are 5 fran

To build super energy efficient and have 9, or all 11, control layers attached, I needed a system. The same problems will exist on houses built today that are built exactly the same way we built them in 1980. Different year. Nothing changed. Hard to expect different outcomes. But labor is harder to find, quality control ugh, so I created a system that comes delivered with all 11 control layers attached. That’s not 11 trips around a house as moisture bulk water and vapor and thermal are all solve

I’ve been fortunate to talk to many of you about building a Passive House caliber, as near to Net Zero, Off Grid home. The products I’ve invented have been used in the largest Passive House in North America and a DOE most energy efficient home in America. I’ve seen first hand all the details these architects drew, and what the builders had to go through, to be successful. There are 60 great manufacturers of insulation out there and you and your team need to decide how to use them…I just teach yo

I’ve been in the construction industry learning from the ground up since 1974. Hauling concrete blocks to plywood to hanging sheet rock. In 1979 I went to school for architecture and took a course to become certified as an energy auditor. I’m one of the oldest pioneers in the building science space. I’m here to support you into making sure that structures are obviously energy efficient and avoid vapor, moisture, bulk water…challenges. Because if you don’t avoid those you end up with mold in your

Driving sound the countryside and seeing all the developments being built within earshot…right along the freeways…takes extra care on the developers part, and the builders part. I did a development once on a rail track. A whistle stop mind you. My dogs name what Whisper and the property had a “ridge”…hence named the development Whisper Ridge. You know which lots sold first? Yup. The lots on the tracks. Why I asked…because nobody would ever live behind them and the train noises were soothing. Int

In 1982 the Energy Codes changed in Minnesota and we had to start sealing up houses so that they basically were a plastic bag. And if you ever missed one little hole, that’s where the moisture went out, and I found out the hard way that you could literally rot out a window jamb, cause mold, and have the stucco fall off in 12 months. We told people back then, because venting was almost negligible, that if you had moisture on your windows, we literally told you to crack a window. I teach all of th

Disclaimer out the gate. The OSB we tested was not Huber as we didn’t know if there was any structural value added by the green paint. We tested standard 7/16” OSB that was off the shelf. ICC-ES did the racking test. My story goes all the way back to 1982 when the price of plywood now went to over $5 a sheet. Imagine that. Nobody could afford $5 a sheet. So people started using chip board and started using buffalo board known as builtrite, but those products back then didn’t have enough structur

I first want to thank each and everyone of you for following me. 31,000 of you in 70 days. I hope and pray that I can continue to bring the real onions of how to build super energy efficient homes and buildings. But I’m going to add a caveat to that…and mold free for at least 100 years. You see, in 1982 we started sealing up houses so tight, but the builders were allowed to ventilate by just using a fart fan. That’s a fact. Before that…if you had moisture on your windows, just open up a window.

This builder is only required to get below 5ACH50 where I filmed this. I can sure think of 20 ways to do better, the best house scored a .001ACH50 and it only took a bit more effort than this. But that build knew what they were doing. Also won a DOE Award for the Most Energy Efficient Home in America. Controlling air changer per hour is as critical to controlling thermal bridging. The HVAC system in this house is 5 times bigger than my house. 5 times!!!! Question. Why are you following me? Sure,

I have heard from several of you lately about building an ADU in the back yard, and some cities are going to potentially allow up to 3 of them. The cities are afraid of you building 3 chicken coops and renting them out. I can’t do this for everyone, but for some small fee I could design one to match the look of your house. Just saying. I have been to one tiny home manufacturer and they heat and cool them with a small MiniSplit. But if you use me, it will be as near to Net Zero as possible. Maybe
