According to ASME B30.26 Rigging Practices section, it is required that screw pin threads are fully engaged and tight, and the pin shoulder is in contact with the shackle body. The old practice of tightening a screw pin shackle, so it is hand-tight and then backing it off an eighth to a quarter of a turn is not allowed per the ASME B30.26 standard. Nor does it comply with the shackle manufacturer's recommendations. This will definitely ruffle some feathers out there as many if not most, riggers
