This video of arctic lampreys was taken by Ranger Kristen Ulery on June 5th, 2019 in an unnamed stream off of Lake Brooks. Like Pacific salmon, arctic lampreys spend much of their lives at sea. These lampreys have come all the way back to the freshwater riffles where their lives began - to spawn once before dying. Animals whose life histories are marked by "semelparity" - a single, fatal act of reproduction - present an interesting challenge to the human imagination. | Katmai National Park & Pre
